Mammoth Quest Final
Oh Shit Ridge, a permanently closed hanging snowfield with about 500 vertical feet of all the necessary features at the top and bottom of the venue, is where it would all go down. The top has three huge rocks that look like different size diving boards, 30,50, and 70 feet. Only the first two were in play and conditions were not favorable for these Phat to Flat airs. The bottom was one continuous waving wall of rock with narrow to wide chutes interspersed. The easiest way out was a rock strewn chute to a 6 to 8 foot air out. The rest of the exits were at least 20 feet of rock to clear or bigger. Jonas Emery set the pace with a pole pull front flip into the venue and a solid landing from 25 feet at the exit. Ralph Backstrom followed it up with a solid run down thru this pencil chute about 4 feet wide with a mandatory pre ollie before a 30 foot wall. The rest of the Americans in the field would stumble except Will Brommelsiek who used the run to move up 4 places. Dave Watson would drop from 1st to 11th after trying to ride over the rocks at the end of a chute, just get caught and drop from 40 feet onto his shoulder. This left room for the sure footed Europeans to do some damage. Only the top 6 would get a second run and here was the list
1 Ralph Backstrom
2 Jonas Emery
3 Cory Kaczmarek
4 Max Zipster
5 Raphael Bullet
6 Gennady Kryachkov
The second run seemed to take on a hold on to my spot atmosphere as no rider stepped it up and Cory took a fall which dropped him 2 places and a chance for the Helicopter ride with the top 14 plus Steve Klassen and Jeremy Jones. Which moved Max Zipser on to compete the following week.
On the Ladies Side Tiffany Noel and Lisa Ruggierri would face off against Kaisa Harkonen Elisabeth Pahl, Annina Karvonen, and Beragere Moroc. After the first day on The Hemlocks Tiffany showed why she is a podium rider with a soid run through the spine. And would lead the ladies into Oh Shit. But it would be the day of French rider Beragere Moroc. Who put together back to back strong runs and showed the consistency it takes to take home a 1st place. Here’s the list
1 Beragere Moroc
2 Tiffany Noel
3 Kaisa Harkonen
4 Elisabeth Pahl
5 Annina Karvonen
6 Lisa Ruggieri
